VN 115/87 Plus

Visatron VN115/87 Plus Oil Mist Detection System

Used on both 2- and 4-stroke engines. Acts as a detection switch — when oil mist development or dangerous friction is detected, an alarm is released to the ship's alarm and safety system, triggering engine stop or slowdown.

Schaller Visatron VN115/87 Plus Oil Mist Detector

A header-suction-tube system is used by the VN115/87 Plus. The oil mist detector is positioned in the middle between two header-suction-tube sections on the engine sides. These tubes have a throttling effect and are thinner than the header-suction-tube, creating a pressure differential that drives the crankcase atmosphere through the measurement path.

The atmospheric mixture from all individual compartments passes via the header pipe through the detector's pipe connector box into the opacity measurement path in the housing of the measuring head. Upon detection of oil mist above the alarm threshold, the system releases an alarm signal to the ship's safety system — triggering an immediate engine stop or slowdown mode as per classification rules.

Visatron VN115/87 Plus EX Oil Mist Detector

Designed to monitor 4-stroke diesel, gas and dual fuel engines. ATEX certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Same functional principle as the VN115/87 Plus with enhanced explosion-proof rating.

Schaller Visatron VN115/87 Plus EX

The VN115/87 Plus EX consists of a detection system that acts as a switch. When oil mist development or dangerous friction is detected, an alarm signal is sent to the ship's alarm and safety system. The engine will either stop immediately or switch to slowdown mode depending on classification rules and engine purpose.

The EX version features an explosion-proof enclosure, making it suitable for engines in classified hazardous zones aboard gas carriers and dual fuel vessels.

Visatron VN115/93 Oil Mist Detection System

Suitable for monitoring trunk piston diesel engines with in-line and V cylinder arrangements running at medium and high speed. Header pipe sampling without individual compartment localization.

The atmospheric mixture from the crankcase passes from all individual compartments via header pipe through the detector's pipe connector box into the opacity measurement path in the measuring head housing.

The alarm threshold can be set to 4 levels in a range from 1.5% to 5.0% opacity — providing flexible sensitivity adjustment for different engine types and cargo conditions.

Visatron VN116/87 Plus Oil Mist Detection System

Higher sensitivity than the VN115/87 due to differential alarm level. Compares oil mist concentration from each side of the header-suction-tube section and responds when a difference is detected.

Schaller Visatron VN116/87 Plus

The VN116/87 Plus carries a differential alarm level in addition to the standard 4-stage adjustment. To measure opacity differential, the sample flow from both header-suction-tube sections is fed to the turbidimetric channel alternately by closing respective tube sections via reed valves.

The microprocessor saves opacity values and executes opacity comparison. In base configuration, both valves are open to monitor all compartments simultaneously. When overheating damage occurs, it is identified in the compartment group with the higher opacity.

Higher sensitivity design for trunk piston diesel engines — in-line and V-cylinder arrangements at medium and high speed. Direct replacement for VN115/93 without modifications.

Schaller Visatron VN116/93

The VN116/93 detects damage through a header pipe sampling system with display of the crankcase compartment half in which overheating damage has taken place — providing more precise fault localization compared to the VN115/93.

Since the sampling system via header pipe is identical to the VN115/93, the VN116/93 can directly replace the VN115/93 without any further modifications to the engine installation.

Visatron VN215/87 Plus Oil Mist Detection System

Indicates the suction point with the highest opacity, identifying the exact compartment where overheating damage has occurred. Single-suction-tube system with individual compartment connection.

The VN215/87 Plus has a single-suction-tube system where each compartment is connected by a separate tube to the valve box designed for 10 suction lines. The compound opacity from all compartments is continuously measured.

When opacity exceeds the damage check threshold, a search run is automatically executed. If the differential alarm level is exceeded, an automatic machine stop or speed reduction is immediately triggered — even if the search run is not yet terminated.

The highest sensitivity Visatron model. Best suited for crosshead engines at medium and slow speeds — where oil mist spreads slower from the damaged compartment compared to trunk piston engines.
